Ken West is the Managing Partner of Walker West Longo LLP. Ken graduated with a Master of Laws in tax law from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. He received his Bachelor of Laws from The University of Ottawa and his Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law with a specialization in international and comparative law. Ken has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo.

Ken is a member of the Florida Bar, the Washington D.C. Bar, The Law Society of Upper Canada and the Bar of the United States Tax Court. Ken is certified as a Specialist in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Upper Canada

Ken acts for clients large and small, including many large multinational corporations with respect to assessment and property taxation. Ken has also consulted with assessment agencies outside Ontario on assessment issues and jurisprudence.

Ken’s practice focuses on valuation appeals before the Assessment Review Board and appeals on applications under the City of Toronto Act and the Municipal Act, 2001 for tax rebate and similar issues, including vacancy, demolition, and repair and renovation.

Ken regularly advises clients with respect to the property tax clauses in commercial leases to ensure fair taxation among tenants.

Ken acts for clients before arbitrators in disputes regarding tax payments and refunds. Ken has appeared before the Assessment Review Board, the Superior Court of Justice and the Divisional Court.

Ken also provides legal advice on fees and charges and art law matters.

Ken is the Course Director of the Osgoode Hall Professional Development/ International Property Tax Institute Expert Witness in Valuation Disputes program and is the Course Director of the Expert Valuation Report Writing Program. Ken has taught numerous continuing education seminars, workshops, symposia and presentations relating to Assessment, property taxation, expert witnesses and trial preparation. Ken’s speaking engagements have taken him from Toronto, to Hong Kong, to Kuala Lumpur and beyond.

While a law student, Ken sat on the editorial board of the University of Ottawa Law Review.

Ken is currently the Chair of the Ontario Chapter of the Canadian Property Tax Association, The Vice-President of the Ontario Property Tax Lawyer’s Association, a member of the Advocates’ Society, the Ontario Bar Association Law Practice Management Section Executive as a Member -at-Large and an active organizer for the International Property Tax Institute. Ken was the first international member and board member of the National Association of Property Tax Attorneys. Ken also sits on the Board of the International Wine and Food Foundation of Canada.
